How to choose a massage table

Masseurs work with different clients: some are small, others are very tall, some have very broad shoulders, others have hips and so on. That is why a good adjustable massage table is not a luxury, but a necessity for a massage therapist. Medical services should be as inclusive as possible and massage is no exception.

The table should be wide, it should have enough space for the client of any physique. Convenient for the client and, most importantly, a massage therapist, the table will allow the latter to use the massage techniques, techniques and methods as efficiently as possible, without causing the client discomfort. The most suitable table width can be determined by the physical parameters of the massage therapist, as well as by the level of his training. All massage therapists are different, and we all have different expectations on our massage tables.

For example, if a massage therapist is short, he will probably be more comfortable working at a table 75-80 centimeters wide, and for tall masseurs, the most suitable table width is 70 centimeters. Of course, these are very general figures that can be used as a guide in the initial stages of choosing a massage table. If you are not sure which table is best for you, you can consult with a colleague or teacher. Look at the tables at which your familiar masseurs work, pay attention to their width (tables, not masseurs).

By the way, the shape of massage tables is currently changing: approximately from 2016-2017, the popularity of hourglass massage tables has been growing. These tables help the client relax and provide maximum comfort.

Table height: Modern massage tables can be easily customized to meet specific needs. The ability to change the height and some other parameters of the table allows the massage therapist to apply a wide range of techniques and techniques without moving from one table to another. The height of most modern massage tables can vary between 55-85 centimeters. Thus, a massage therapist of any height can adjust the height of the massage table for himself.

• Wooden tables: Wooden massage tables have one or two rotary knobs for height adjustment, which are very easy to rotate.

• Aluminum tables: Most often, aluminum massage tables are equipped with a pedal or height adjustment buttons (this may depend on the type of drive – mechanical, hydraulic, and so on). Adjusting the height of the table takes a few seconds. These mechanisms are very reliable, and in practice do not fail.

Table weight: Before buying a massage table, you should think about its weight and strength:

• The weight of the table itself: If you buy a table not to work in the office, but to work at home with customers, be sure to pay attention to the weight of the table itself, because you will often have to carry it with you! And remember, you need to wear the table very carefully, and the point here is not the safety of the table – we raised this topic in an article devoted to the professional injuries of a massage therapist.

• Workload: The workload of the table is the maximum weight the table can support. At the beginning of the article, we talked about the inclusion of massage, and strong massage tables make a big contribution to the availability of therapy for many clients.

Currently, there are a lot of manufacturers of massage tables, and their range is very wide. Good luck with choosing the perfect job!
